Kwengface

Kwengface

Kwengface makes UK drill look easy. Known for his winding flows and steely delivery, he emerged in the late 2010s as a blossoming star in the scene. Born in 1998 in South London, Kwengface grew up in a gritty neighborhood in Peckham and saw himself in the street tales of the rapper Giggs. Modeling his flow off Giggs, as well as the Afrobeats and bashment artists he listened to, Kwengface started rapping with the group Zone 2 in his late teens and scored local hits early with songs like “Fishing,” “No Hook,” and “On Me.” In 2021, he dropped his debut mixtape, YPB: Tha Come Up. On that release, Kweng sounds poised after years of cutting his teeth in the drill circuit, as well as hardened by the authorities whose anti-gang measures kept him from releasing the record. His is the story of UK drill’s promising future.
